Androsia was the winner of the Silver Jubilee award for 1998. The Silver Jubilee award celebrated 25 years of Bahamian independence. It was given to certain individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to the Bahamas.

The company was originally started as a cottage industry in 1973, the year of Bahamian independence, with two goals in mind. First, to create meaningful employment for locals and secondly, to create a quality product that would, through its design and colour, highlight the beauty of the Bahamas. Androsia is a strictly Bahamian product.

Our fabric designs come out of the fabric using the art of batik. True batik. Every yard is waxed then dyed then cut and sewn right here at Androsia. From time to time you will see us offer complimenting pieces that do not have a design. We will have hand dyed that fabric.

We consider ourselves a leader in the world in being able to reproduce shades that match each other very well. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee exact matches because every yard is hand dyed. However, I think that you will find that different orders will match very well.

Because we use wax we must use a cold water dye. Otherwise, the wax will melt off and there goes our beautiful design. We are so fortunate that we have developed a way of using fiber reactive dyes that allow us great reproducibility while at the same time the dyes offer great wash fastness, color fastness, and rubbing fastness. These dyes keep our colors bright, clear, and upbeat while displaying the striking wonders of our tropical world.

All Androsia pieces (with design or not) are preshrunk because of how we remove the excess dyes and wax. Androsia is very easy care, once you wash it by itself in hot water to remove the excess dye (any dye that comes out will not change the color) you can wash the item anyway you want without fear of damaging it. You most certainly do not have to dry clean or hand wash!
